In the name of video art, Cindy Sherman, Ryan Trecartin, Lizzie Fitch, Trisha Paytas drag and drag again, we mis-quote Andy Warhol.

In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.

15 Minutes of Fame is a collective video work made up of 15 one-minute scenes each directed by a different member of The Killing. Originally structured as standalone scenes, the scenes are now spliced, layered, and cut into each other much like a remix to create a fragmented spectacle of performance and attention.

Representing moments and figures of virality in a method that embraces distortion and disruption. The work blurs sincerity and spectacle. A feed that never refreshes. A fame loop on repeat. Embodiments loop and break entirely.

The work interrogates the politics of being seen; what it means to be seen, to perform. It’s what happens when everyone wants their minute at the same time. Each body becomes both vessel and medium, embodying the absurdity, desperation, glamour, and the grotesquerie of chasing relevance.

The Killing is a body of makers & friends currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. The organs of this body are known for their investigations into play, naivety, identity, queerness, and the honouring of the inner child in their collective practice. Fluid in their approaches to being & making, The Killing is led by instinct and shifts between various modes of making, emphasising the importance of playfulness.

Recent presentations include Imaginary Friends as part of Aotearoa Contemporary, Auckland Art Gallery (2024) and Cirque Du Killing presents: FEAST at CoCA – Centre of Contemporary Art Toi Moroki (2024)
